about each
Just Midnight member
Chip sings the tenor line and is married to fellow Just Midnighter Carolyn. He has an eclectic dress sense
and an amazing collection of frames for his glasses!
Chip comes from an extremely musical background, his father directed many male choirs back in the USA.
Chip was privileged to be able to sing with America's Number one male chorus The Vocal Majority from
Dallas Texas. On a tour of the UK he met Carolyn, who is now his wife. Chip's claim to fame is singing for the President, supporting Frankie Valli, The Four Freshmen and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Apart from singing, his main career in the USA was as an Olympic springboard diving coach.
Ed is married to fellow Just Midnighter Pat and they were both former founders of the group. Ed is a great
joker as well as a talented musician and also plays in jazz band ’Main Street’.
John F (aka ‘Finn’ ) born in Liverpool, is the ‘new kid on the block’ having joined the group just over eight
months ago. He is proving to be a very valuable member - not only is he quick to learn new songs, but he
also makes delicious mince pies!
Although new to ''a capella'' singing, John has sung and played guitar in a 4-piece ‘rock / pop’ band since
1985 who have entertained at a variety of functions ( in pubs, clubs, hotels etc. ) all over the North West. Biggest ambition was (and probably still is! ) to become accomplished on pianoforte and to that end has attended lessons on at least 8 different attempts from the age of 8 upwards, but alas to no avail – too many notes, too few fingers!

Alan - with his military background, Alan is a great team player and can always be relied on to get a job
done! He is also our unofficial photographer! Alan sings bass and joined Just Midnight 18 months ago, after
singing for 12 years with Barbershop choruses in the North West. He also occasionally sings with The
Cheadle Hulme School Choral Society. His musical “talents” don’t stop there, he has being playing the guitar
for over 40 years now, never having progressed from the original 4 chords learnt! One better than Status Quo!

Andy is a member of so many different singing groups it’s a wonder he has time for us! However we are
very grateful for his musical talent, cheerful attitude - (he’s one of the gigglers in the goup!) and his ability to
source some interesting songs for our repertoire. (To say nothing of the fact that he can always be relied on
to bring refreshments to our rehearsals!)
Andy is Deputy MD and Chair of Ordsall Acapella Singers www.ordsallsingers.co.uk as well as a member of the L & G
choir based in Manchester and is looking forward to singing with them in the ‘Various Voices’ performance in London and
at the Out Games in Copenhagen later this year.
John C sings bass with the group and is our ‘rhythm’ man! He also sings with the Cottontown Chorus
and we were delighted to witness them winning the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year semi-finals at the Liverpool
Philharmonic in November 2008. John also sings in a quartet called ‘Celebration’ .
Tim - another of our bass singers, is proving to be quite a dark horse! Tim also sings with
Cottontown Chorus and we recently sang at his wedding (see 2008 Highlights).
Paul has recently returned from a spell in New Zealand and is as enthusiastic as ever about singing with
Just Midnight, despite having to re-learn all the songs in his new singing part of Baritone! Paul is an
experienced singer and has sung in quartet with fellow Just Midnighter Ed as well as with a medal winning
barbershop chorus.
Carolyn - an established ‘lead’ singer, is the ‘style queen’ of the group - someone who could wear a paper
bag and still look fantastic!
Married to fellow Just Midnighter Chip, Carolyn was vocally trained at Chethams School of Music in
Manchester and is passionate about all genres of music, especially accapella. She has sung with several
close harmony groups over the past 17 years at a variety of interesting venues, her most memorable being
a singing Convention where she met her husband Chip 14 years ago. Her other hobbies are cooking, theatre
and anything supernatural.
Pat - married to fellow Just Midnighter Ed, Pat is an experienced ‘lead’ singer having sung in both medal
wining quartets and choruses. Pat is one of the ‘gigglers’ in the group and often has to be threatened with
the ‘naughty corner’ at rehearsals!
Christine - the ‘baby’ of the group, is a talented musician and singer (although she’s too modest to say
so herself!) with a wide vocal range who helps to ensure that everyone is singing the right notes!
Pam is an accomplished pianist as well as a singer and has even written and arranged a song for Just
Midnight! Originally from Coventry, Pam didn’t discover the joys of North West living until 1989 – but
hasn’t looked back since. She’s enjoyed close harmony singing since childhood and confesses to being
one of those geeks who used to try to work out the parts of Sandman when Terry Wogan played it on
Radio 2 in the ‘70’s. She’s sung in various choirs and musical theatre productions and also enjoys
embarrassing her three children, given half a chance, on the dance floor.
Sue B - often to be found alongside Pat in the naughty corner at rehearsals due to her frequent and
rather distinctive laugh, Sue enjoys ‘organising’ the group! In the early 90’s Sue began singing on a regular
basis when she joined Crystal Chords. A couple of years later and looking for more of a challenge, she
joined forces with three other like minded members of the chorus and formed a quartet called ‘Fortune’,
enjoying success at local music festivals as well as entertaining various groups in the Cheshire area. One of their more unusual gigs was singing a ‘mile of music’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support!

Sue H - with a bubbly personality and great musical ability, Sue 2 or SooBoo as she is more commonly
known started singing as a schoolgirl in Wales but only joined JM 18 months ago when she was invited to
come and meet the rest of the group by John C. She was hooked from that moment and couldn't turn down
the chance of an audition as she loves harmony singing, but had never properly experienced a mixed setting.
She has a career as a music teacher in Knowsley and it was her love of singing that led to this career choice. Before joining the JM ers and until recently she was the director of a barbershop group and JM has fulfilled her passion to sing again with her face, not her back to the audience!
